Assume it's 2:13 am and your 13 year old wakes you up to tell you she heard a noise. At first you think she is over reacting or perhaps had a bad dream, so you ask where she heard the noise. You again, think she has over reacted. Then she tells you that she could feel a vibration on her feet when she heard the noise and she heard it more than once. So you wake up your husband and tell him your daughter heard a noise. He jumps out of bed and grabs the Glock and leaves the room. You realize that he also heard 'the noise' when you hear a round go in the gun chamber. At this point - WHAT IS YOUR PLAN? At this point you don't know enough to know if the threat is real or not, but your senses are on full alert. You treat the threat as real. I know this because I experienced it last night. It's NOW that you realize your plan may not be as detailed as you want. From this experience, I have thought out a list of ideas you may want to consider as you make a family plan. My family will be making adjustments to our plan based on what happened last night.

Our family had a scare last night! I have my CCL and am well trained in how to use several different guns. Last nights event made us realize that we have holes in our 'plan'. I hope blog will encourage everyone the importance to develop and practice a plan. Owning a gun is not enough - you must know how to use and and what to do.
